I’m not one for fancy kitchen tools. In fact the two most elaborate gadgets in my kitchen are my Cuisinart (with a broken tube feed) and an ice-cream maker, both of which were wedding gifts. So, I won’t give you a list of expense items you need to run out and purchase in order to become a great cook. One thing though, I know every home cook should have is a large, cast iron frying pan; the older the better! The best thing about a cast iron skillet is its multi uses.

In preparation for Foster Care Awareness month in May, news articles are appearing to raise awareness to a situation that Catalyst lives all year. (CNN) – “In 2012 in the United States, 23,439 children in foster care turned 18 and were "emancipated" or "aged out." In simple terms, most of them were put out into the world on their own without housing, financial assistance or emotional support.” Each year the percentage of young adults aging out of foster care increases. Yet resources available to them remain grossly limited. “These are children who were neglected or abused by parents -- physically or sexually or both -- so egregiously that a judge permanently severed the parents' rights to claim the children as their own.” Once these children are removed from their homes they are placed in facilities or foster care families and moved frequently. They live without the consistency of loving care and withstand constant interruptions to their education.
